On the 3rd  of  November the Americans will elect  the US President. The elections arouse great emotion, all the more it falls  in  the year 2020, which is very difficult for everyone.

Interestingly, the largest social networking platforms took concrete steps to avoid making mistakes like  during the 2016 elections. Let us recall, that in 2016, a bot farm, linked to the Kremlin, bought 3500 Facebook ads addressed to US voters, trying to influence the outcome of the elections through this action. So here we are dealing with a situation in which one country tries to directly influence the election result in another country.

President Trump has repeatedly signaled publicly that he does not accept the scenario in which the elections are lost. So how, in the context of heated emotions, have the social media giants prepared themselves for this year's elections?

Facebook has announced that it will publish a pinned message on Facebook and Instagram during the election night that the counting of votes is ongoing. This is due to the fact that the results of the election will not necessarily be known during the election evening, and the final result can be known within a few days.

If one of the candidates announces his or her victory on the Facebook platform before the announcement of the official results, Facebook announces that these are not official results. Earlier, Facebook blocked the activities of the dangerous QAnon conspiracy movement.

Twitter has made a number of changes to its policy, including the removal of tweets that prematurely announce election results or the marking of incorrect tweets with warning stickers indicating that the message may be misleading. Another change is a change in the operation of the 'retweet' function. Have you noticed the difference?

Youtube announces the posting of a "not-confirmed” information sticker on the election result video before the official announcement.

IT seems that the largest social networking platforms have drawn lessons from 2016 and are taking responsibility for the content that is published through them. But is it not a double-edged sword? Can the involvement of social media in the published content to such an extent lead to abuses in restricting freedom of speech (in any other area)?
